"We walked in the door and all said, "WOW!". It is such a welcoming house because everything you could ever want is here, it was wonderful to find soap powder in the laundry! "Fantastic, relaxing view. Very cosy and well appointed accommodation. Will certainly earmark Possum Beach Cottage as a 'must return to spot', particularly for a chill-out holiday. "We all loved our stay here;  this is such a great house! The bedrooms were awesome. They were really cozy, and reminded us a little of the kind of rooms we'd have in Canadian cottages. It was nice being so close to all kinds of things: the water, and of course Port Arthur. I think it would be fair to say that we all agree that this must be one of the best cottages we've stayed at, which is quite a bit to say, keeping in mind the fact that we're great travellers, and have seen about half the world. Again we had an awesome time, and we hope we can come back here some day." The Soumans. August 07.

How far from the Port Arthur historic site is Possum Beach Cottage?
It is only a 3-minute drive to the Historic site. We are located the next Bay around from the Historic Sites Mason Cove.

How much time does it take to see the historic site?
Our personal experience was this. On our first visit to the historic site we planned to be there about 2 hours. In actual fact, there was so much to see and do that we had trouble pulling ourselves out of the place by the 4-hour mark! You should allow at least three hours. Don’t forget they offer cruises out to ‘the Isle of the Dead” too. If the weather is good, we recommend getting out on the water for 40minutes or so, it’s fantastic.

Is the historic Site all there is to see and do on the peninsula?
No way! There is a heap to do down in this neck of the woods. We recommend that you plan at least two nights on the Sea Cliff Coast to give yourself ample opportunity to discover this fantastic part of the world. See our ‘Attractions’ page’ for details of what attractions you can do while you are here.

You say, “Just turn up and let yourself in”. I feel uncomfortable not being able to ‘check-in’ with a real person face to face.
Possum Beach Cottage is all about simplicity and freedom. You are free to turn up any time you like after 2pm, no need to worry about racing to get there before ‘reception’ closes to get your keys, no deadlines to meet. Who needs that on holidays? Once you’ve tried it you will see how easy it is. We’ll E-mail you your key (Access Code) and that’s all you need to get into the Cottage.

Here's what a recent customer said: "Beautifully renovated accommodation. Wonderful to lie in bed and watch the colours of the sunrise dance upon the water. Quiet and relaxing. We'll be back but for longer next time. Must admit it was weird booking accommodation and having no contact with a person but just given a pin number electronically. Glad we took the plunge."

What happens if I forget my Access Code (‘key’)?

Hopefully this won’t happen. You should look after your Access Code, just as you would your own car keys. However if you do misplace your Access Code you can call on the Cottages caretakers who live next door and they will assist you. Instructions for this are located on the back door of the property.

What is your bedding configuration?
Possum Beach Cottage has three bedrooms (see floor plan). The Master bedroom has water views and contains a Queen bed. Bedroom 2 contains two single beds with pull out trundle beds underneath them, making a total of four single beds in that room. Bedroom 3 contains a second queen size bed.

Do you have electric blankets?
No. However, all our rooms are heated for your comfort.

What do I need to bring?
Just your food. Possum Beach Cottage is fully self-contained. All the comforts of home are at your fingertips. We provide your towels and bed linen too and spare blankets available. We provide those little individual soaps for your bathroom and sachets of tea, coffee, sugar and UHT milk are available. All you need to bring is you food. There is a general store 3 minutes drive up the road (see map) where you can buy basic grocery items, however choice is limited. It also sells takeaway hot food.

Do you have a hair dryer?
Yes a hair dryer is located in the bathroom.

I did not receive my Access Code, what should I do?
After making a purchase you should receive two emails.  One is a receipt of your purchase.  The second is your Welcome Email.  This Welcome Email contains your Keypad Access Code, a road map and extra details about Possum Beach Cottage.  Both emails should arrive in your Inbox within 15minutes of your purchase, often much sooner.  It can sometimes be the case that you receive the receipt of purchase email but not the Welcome Email.  Due to the way in which some email clients process our correspondence, this Welcome Email can sometimes be deposited in your Bulk or Junk folders.  Please check your Bulk / SPAM/ Junk folder to see if your email client has deposited it there. In particular, users of webmail based email clients such as Yahoo, Hotmail or Gmail should definitely check your Bulk / Junk folder. If you still do not have your Welcome email, please use the Contact Us and request us to resend your Welcome Email. Please include your booking ID Number and dates purchased in this correspondence.

What happens if after making a purchase I do not receive any Receipt or Welcome Emails from you?
It is most likely the case that you entered your email address incorrectly (twice) during the purchase process. Contact Us and describe what has happened.  Please ensure that the email address you enter here is correct so we can cross reference any error in this regard.

When I hit the PAY NOW button all I get is an error page full of computer code.
It is very rare that we have problems with our booking system and we apologise for the frustration this can cause you. We suggest you try again, but before you do so please empty your internet browsers cache (memory). You shouldn't need to do this but when hiccups occur this can help. Sometimes when you attempt to redo an action, the computer just recalls the result of that same previous action from its memory instead of actually redoing the action a second time.  By clearing the cache it will force the computer into redoing the action again, hopefully with a better result this time. If you are using Internet Explorer  you can do this by selecting, TOOLS/ INTERNET OPTIONS / GENERAL TAB/ under browsing history click DELETE. Then at the bottom of the 'Delete Browsing History' window click DELETE ALL, check the box for "Also Delete files and settings..." Click OK.

When I click on a date it immediately shows SOLD - but I haven't purchased it yet?
This is a normal system function.  You see, by switching that date to show SOLD, it shows anyone else browsing those dates that they have been sold to you, (or are about to be).  Our system uses a special 'lock out' function that precludes any body else from trying to buy your selected dates for a period of 15 minutes from the time you click on the BOOK NOW button.  This gives you time to fill in your personal details and stops another person 'gazumping you'.

If an error occurs and then I revisit the booking calendar to try and redo the booking, the dates I was trying to book show as SOLD and I cannot reselect them. Have they been SOLD to me or not?
The short story - No they have not been sold to you. You need to wait 15mins and then try again.  Occasionally you may need to wait 24hours before retrying, depending upon how the system decides to deal with the error. Contact Us if the dates dont reset themselves after this time.
The long story - This is a function of our anti gazumping technology. (See the above question for detail).  The reason they show SOLD is because the system recognised those dates as being selected by someone (you) just prior to the error occuring.  Subsequently it will now lock those dates as SOLD for 15minutes.  Hence you cannot access them until this 15 minute period expires.  After 15 minutes elapses, the system releases these dates and makes them available again for sale.  Your purchase is not complete until you receive a receipt of your purchase and a email from us which contains your key (Access Code) and a road map.
